There has never been one man who gave so much to the city of Steubenville, and to his beloved Big Red as Mr. David Hindman. Mr. Hindman had a long tenure on the Steubenville Board of Education, was the Mayor of Steubenville, and was a Jefferson County Commissioner; all while operating his electronics business.
He spent countless hours at Harding Stadium donating his time, effort, and money to give Big Red the most unique stadium in the country. Mr. Hindman gave Big Red it's famous "fire-breathing horse" in 1970, and it's computer message board in 1977. Mr. Hindman maintained the scoreboard, lighting, and all the electronics at Harding Stadium up until his death in 1995. Mr. Hindman also was responsible for assembling a group of men, known to us all as "The Hustlin' 8", which controlled the fire-breathing Horse, the computer board, serviced the coach's phones, and oversaw the public address system.
I consider myself very lucky to have assisted Mr. Hindman at the stadium, and a honor to call him my friend.
